The passing of Lino Lensi

We have received the sad news of the passing of Lino Lensi in Empoli on August 28th. Lensi was a long-standing member of our AIDA association, having joined in 1994, almost thirty years ago.

Lino was a great collector of LATI (Lignes Aériennes Transcontinentales Italiennes), of airmail related to the colonies, and of Special Air Services. His collections in these areas received high recognition both nationally and internationally. Over the years, he was a significant contributor to the association, serving as a board member and, for several years, as an editor of our magazine. He was also an tireless organizer. Thanks to him, we were able to hold a very successful “Airmail Day” in Empoli in 2012, coinciding with the “Emporium” exhibition, organized annually by the Empoli Philatelic Circle. On that occasion, we commemorated the centenary of the 1912 “Pro Flotta Aerea” events. This experience, again thanks to him, was repeated in 2019.

Many of us who knew him will fondly remember his grace and kindness in his interactions; never a controversy or a word out of place. It was impossible not to get along with him; any potential conflict was resolved before it even started.

To his wife Valentina and his entire family, we extend our deepest condolences.
