Philatelic, Model Aircraft, Painting Exhibition, Commercial Conference October 4,5th 2003
The event was organized by the Livornese Philatelic-Numismatic Circle (CFNL), in collaboration with the Italian Association of Aerophilately.
As well highlighted by President of CFNL, Enrico Fernandez Affricano, a better occasion could not have been chosen to hold this aerial event, given the large number of companies worthy of celebration in 2003.
In fact, in that year the centenary of the Wright Brothers was celebrated, who were the first to fly with a vehicle heavier than air; it was 75 years after Umberto Nobile’s feat, with the “Italia” airship that flew over the North Pole; 70 years after the famous North Atlantic Cruise of the 25 seaplanes in formation, under the command of General Balbo and in that same year, in 1933, the Zeppelin LZ.127 airship made a flight to Italy, throwing a lot of mail over Livorno. Then it was the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Italian Air Force, to which the Academy of Livorno contributed, hosting the first aviator school.
These were important occasions that the Club, not new to events of this kind, could not ignore and so, taking advantage of the membership of AIDA of the then secretary of the Club, Pierluigi Ciucci, it was possible to agree with our association to organize this exhibition, trying to exhibit collections that are as relevant as possible to these events, as can be seen from the list of collections on display.

It was the fourth aerophilatelic event that was organized by the CFNL and the first, in 1972, also had the recognition of the then President of Republic Giovanni Leone. This time the event, which took place in the magnificent rooms of the Cruise Terminal in the port of Livorno, was sponsored by the Tuscany Region, the President of the Federation of Italian Philatelic Societies and the Livorno Mayor.

For the occasion, a single issue was also published, with numerous articles on the subject and a series of three special postcards, with drawings that recall the Zeppelin stamps designed by Corrado Mezzana, but with the cartoon that reproduces some glimpses of Livorno. They bear the special cancellation used at the post office present on 10 October in the exhibition premises.
