Cape Town 2022 – Palmares

One large gold, two golds and 4 large vermeils are the maximum results achieved by the Italian team present at the international show in Cape Town, held on 8-12 November 2022. Overall, there were 10 Italian participants.

The exhibition for the competitive classes, as already happened in London, took place in two phases:

First Phase:

Second phase:

  • Traditional philately
  • Modern philately
  • Tax philately
  • Interophilia
  • Open Philately

The title of world champion was assigned to Jan Huys-Berlingin (Liechtenstein) for “Belgium’s first issue, the Epaulettes”; the international grand prix went to Alfred Schmidt (Germany), “Prussia – The first three issues1850-1859” and the national one toLars Jorgensen (Belgium), with the collection “South African Republic Transvaal 1869-1885”.

The maximum award of the Italians was attributed to Ferdinando Giudici, with his collection “Souvenir du siège de Paris 1870-1871 – Private mail transported by ballons montés during the Prussian siege”, which obtained 95 points. The two golds went to Paolo Guglielminetti, with his collection “The unfinished network. History of African railways”, which obtained 93 points and to Paolo Bianchi, with the “Portuguese East Africa” collection, which obtained 91 points.

The other winners are: Flavio Riccitelli, with “The Zeppelin flights in the Mediterranean (1929 – 1933)” (88 points); Emilio Milisenda, with “Umberto Nobile and the polar expedition of the airship “Italia”. History, mail, documents and curiosities, 2nd edition” (87 points); Andrea Francesconi, with “Italy 1934 – The II edition of the football world cup” (86 points); Claudio Manzati, with “Women in art” (85 points).
